 Juniors Show Well in Winter Showcase

The U-16's Played Well in Phoenix

The Wizards Juniors had a solid showing at the Winter Showcase in Phoenix over the weekend. The U-16 team went 2-1 over the weekend, and the U-18 team played to three draws.

On Friday the U-16's defeated Seaside United 1-0 on a goal from Eric Moore in the 79th minute. The U-18's also faced Seaside United on Friday, playing to a 0-0 draw.

On Saturday both teams played the Richmond Kickers. The U-16's won 2-0 behind goals from Eric Moore and Chris Brown. The U-18's played a wild game, with Will Witherspoon scoring in the 90th minute to earn the Juniors U-18 team a 3-3 draw.

The Showcase concluded on Monday, with the Wizards Juniors taking on Crossfire Priemier out of Redmond, Washington. The U-16's were dealt their only loss of the weekend, falling 1-0. The U-18's scored another late goal (Tony Young in the 89th minute) to earn a 1-1 draw.

Wizards fans will also be happy to hear that U-16's Goalkeeper Jonathan Kempin made the "Academy Select Team." Development Academy Select Teams are comprised of 130 total players who were chosen by youth national team coaches and U.S. Soccer's youth national team scouting network.
