Today, we got more academic with David Goldblatt's The Ball is Round: A Global History of Soccer. Mr Goldblatt follows the history of the beautiful game as it rose from a local ritual to a world-wide phenomenon. He goes on to say why soccer is poised to break out even further in the United States. Hopefully he is right.

I can't say enough good things about this book. As an American who had very limited knowledge of the history of the game, the book helped me to have much great appreciation for its development into the global force that it is today. It is a must have for any soccer fan.
