 Wyandotte County Calls Meeting

Wyandotte County has called a special Board of Commissioners meeting tomorrow at 5 p.m. CT regarding the Wizards stadium development agreement. All fans are encouraged to attend the public meeting to show their support for the Wizards. (Wear your Wizards gear!) If the plan for a soccer-specific stadium in Village West for the Kansas City Wizards is approved tomorrow, construction would begin immediately.

wow....excited for a soccer-specific stadium for the Wiz BUT still really bummed that the stadium location in KCMO got nixed. im a little confused about how it changed so quickly....i mean contractors have been tearing down the old Bannister mall for a year or more and then the plans evaporated so quickly? what happened?

The money that was supposed to go for the project from the city and state relied on retail being sold.

They couldn't sell the retail because the economy tanked, and the Wizards needed a stadium ASAP. Village West and the state of Kansas were able to provide funding quicker.

Well, if OnGoal had been able to move forward on the project without the obstructions of the Blight King, the Bannister project may have gotten a start prior to the economy heading south.

As it is, KCK has an economic engine already churning away that can squeeze a soccer stadium within its confines while KCMO sputters and stumbles.
